Returning to Myself

Our Values Are What We Do

Our Values Are What We Do

Our values are the whys of our life.

When we believe in an idea, that belief becomes the driving force—the value that shapes how we think, feel, and behave.

We connect with others through our values—because when we do something, we’re communicating it and inviting people who believe what we believe to come closer.

Our relationships are the form our values take.

Our relationship with the value of justice will shape how we give, receive, or ask to be treated fairly.
It raises the question: Have I been wronged more than I can bear?

Our relationship with the value of respect will shape how we want to be respected—and how much lack of respect we can tolerate.
It raises the question: How much do I respect myself to ask that you respect me?

Our relationship with the value of care will shape whether and how we ask to be cared for—and how we give care.

It raises the question: While I ask to be cared for, how comfortable do I truly feel when someone actually cares for me?

Our relationships get hurt through our values—because it’s through them that we meet each other.
We need to speak with these parts of ourselves, to mourn them, and to create new ones—so that we can act in new ways.

If you don’t know why you’ve become the person you are today, you can’t see what kind of person you want to become.

What values do you hold that would draw someone closer to you?
